Bet I scared ya real good there, huh?

Welcome to this year's spooky edition of the Archefire Newsletter! I promise to limit the Halloween-based puns to only the best I can cook up. I don't want this to be *too* scary – this is a family-friendly newsletter after all. I think?

It sure feels like it, as I write this while sitting next to Benny, watching Sesame Street after his nap. I have to watch my language. I think I'm getting pretty good at it though – when I dropped an entertainment center on my foot and potentially broke my big toe (I still don't know, but that toenail is *gone*), the harshest words to escape my lips were something like "Oh good golly, that flippin' HURTS!" I don't remember the exact words because I almost passed out a few seconds later, but Rachel assures me I didn't curse.

But of course I couldn't possibly curse. Only witches can do that.

One pun down, several more to go. Wait, was that even a pun?

What's truly scary this month is how many dang revisions I completed for Sibling Suns 3, so let's get right to that!

### Sibling Suns 3 draft 2.0 is almost complete!

Something strange is happening, something never before seen in the Archefire Empire. I might finish *every single revision* on my list before sending the book to my editor and alpha readers.

Not just the essential ones, not even just the nice to haves. I'm talking about things I had filed under "defer until draft 3.0." I don't know what's happening. Usually I turn in the book with a few dozen leftovers that I never managed to get to. And it's not like there were only a few notes – my revision checklist has **670 checked boxes.**

Some of those fixes are tiny, but some were huge changes that spanned the whole manuscript. I'm pretty sure I've done more work on this novel than I did to earn my master's degree. (I wish I were joking.)

All the critical repairs are done, so all that remains for this month are a handful of things to polish. A side character's subplot, checking a character's dialect for consistency, clearing up what happened to some people who flew off in hot air balloons – that sort of thing. With most of October ahead of me, I've got plenty of time, and amazingly I'm not feeling burned out at all!

I've been saying "roughly 150,000 words" as the estimate for this book, so last night I decided to compile the manuscript and check. I kid you not, my friends, the total word count was **149,979 words**.

Twenty one words to spare! Surely I can resist adding another sentence before sending this bad boy over to the editor and alpha readers.

 Speaking of whom...

### Meet the Alpha Readers

Alpha readers, assemble!

Last month, I invited you to help me finish the *Last Dance of the Sibling Suns*. Now I’m delighted to welcome our four alpha readers: **Charlie Cavendish, Vinamra Tripathi, Jared Martin, and Alice Lalicon!**

Thank you all for offering your time, attention, and feedback for this finale. Writing the ending is one thing. Finding out whether it delivers for people who’ve followed the story through the whole series is another beast.

Alpha readers, your acceptance emails went out last night – if you haven't yet, please fill out the intake form to help me get reader to deliver the book on **November 4**.

Once your feedback and my editor's notes are in, it will be time to start working on draft 3.0! Things will move quickly from there – because I'm quite confident that all of you combined can't come up with another 700 fixes for me to address. 😏

woodland beasts beware, you had better all flee!

You would think that after I send out Sibling Suns 3 in November, I will have earned myself a little break. But you'd be wrong! While the book is in readers' hands, I'll be shifting gears into handling the business side of Archefire Publishing, which has been frightfully long neglected!

How am I going to make that interesting enough for a newsletter update? Well, you'll have to come back next month and see!

Until then, thanks for reading!
